ABSTRACT

   Typhoid fever (TF) is an acute systemic infection caused by Salmonella Typhi, Salmonella Para Typhi A and Salmonella Para Typhi B. It is transmitted by the fecal oral route mainly via contaminated food and water. The developing countries have high rate of morbidity and mortality due to Typhoid fever, epidemics take place in developed world also. There are increased incidences of multi drug resistant in S. typhi strains that has further complicated its management and only a few antibiotics are now effective in treatment of typhoid. We report that the aqueous extracts of fruit peel Citrus sinensis (L.) confer anti typhoid activity against Salmonella Typhi, Salmonella Para Typhi A and Salmonella Para Typhi B respectively on comparison with ciprofloxacin.

A simple, sensitive and accurate spectrophotometric method has been developed for the deterrmination of Atrovastatin calcium in raw material and tablets. The ? max of the Atrovastatin was found  to be 248 nm. The method shows high sensitivity with linearity 5 to 25g/ml. All the calibration curves shows a linear relationship between the absorbance and concentration and coefficient correlation was found to be 0.9989. The regression of the curve was Y = 0.0277X + 0.0052.  %RSD value is below 2.0 for intraday and interday precision indicated that method is highly precised. The percentage recovery value was higher than 100 %, indicates the accuracy of the method and absence of interference of the excipients  present in the formulation. The proposed method will be suitable for the analysis of Atrovastatin in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation.
