Catunargaom Spinosa (Thunb.) Tirveng herb widely distributed throughout India. The aim of present study undertaken was to determine the antimicrobial activity of dried leaves of Catunargaom spinosa (Thunb.) was extracted using methanol, and water to obtain extract, which was concentrated. The extract was investigated for preliminary phytochemical constituents which exhibit saponin, carbohydrates, flavonoides, and tannins. The methanolic extract showed greater antimicrobial activity against Bacillus substillis, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus niger (Fungi), and Staphylococcus aureus using penicillin as a standard drug by cup plate method. Also the evaluation test such as determination of total ash value, extractive values, moisture or loss on drying, and finally determination of foreign organic matter. These evaluations are useful to determine quality and purity of crude drug. Also ash contains inorganic radicals. Studies include some antimicrobial agents, antimicrobial resistant, and their mechanism.
Key words: Catunargaom Soinosa (Thunb.), Antimicrobial activity, Cup plate method, maceration, Bacillus substillis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aueus, Aspargillus niger, penicillin.
